Sprin g Rain; Metamorphosis (12)

Snow has slowly turned into rain,
and at last, a sign of spring.
I was so happy about it
that I opened all the windows.
I only meant
to let in a little fresh air,
but I completely forgot,
and before I knew it, hours had passed.
The room had grown quite chilly,
and I rushed to close them.
··········
but the air inside
was filled with just the right amount of moisture,
and perhaps because the piano
had absorbed that humidity,
it had begun to resonate beautifully.
The hygrometer still reads around 42%,
and yet, it feels completely different.

It felt so good
that I pulled out a Chopin waltz
I hadn’t played in a long time.
The piano was in such a good mood
that the beginning of each sound
felt especially clear.
Even the simplest chords,
note by note,
layering together,
like forming
a transparent, rich wave.
Pieces I used to play often
still carry old habits,
and I had been avoiding them.
Recently, I’ve been working on
reducing unnecessary movement,
but they still appear from time to time.
When they do,
the sound changes,
and now
I can feel signals coming from my body as well.

And as I play,
simply, from the heart,
it is
joyful.
Real change
comes slowly.
And it continues,
endlessly.
Now then,
practice.
but first,
food.
😉
