Group Piano Lessons for Littles

Pre-Piano Fun Circle & Piano Fun Fan Buddy Club

Group piano lesson bridges the gap between a traditional music appreciation class and a real piano lesson!

Innovative new ways of music education that are filled with fun and love of music foster every child's healthy and happy future.

Pre-Piano Fun and Piano Fun Fan Club is a unique and new form of piano lesson with a small number of children up to 4 persons and approximately the same age between 3, 4, and 5 years old.

About Methods: Piano Fun

The methods we use as part of the main text book, Piano Fun, are revolutionary, Japanese-developed piano methods. The author of this method is an Alexander-Technique licensed pianist and piano pedagogue. Her extensive study, including body mapping and neuroscience, led to a new way of teaching piano that cultivates little children's healthy musical growth with proper piano technique.

Course details

Pre-Piano Fun is for children 3 and 4 years old. The main focus is to develop children’s gross motor skills, eye coordination, and auditory development with solfège. They will touch the piano, of course! They may learn introductory concepts of music notation. Note reading won't be introduced; instead, they will have a lot of activities using their body and hands to improve their neural pathways and fine motor skills to prepare for later piano lessons.

Piano Fun Fan Club is for children 4 and 5 years old. No previous music or piano classes are required. We focus on the very similar aspects of Pre-Piano Fun at the beginning. During the first stage, the students will also learn how to use their bodies on the piano little by little. Once all students have comfortably covered stage 1, we move on to preparing note readings (stage 2). They will start note reading with Piano Fun method books at stage 3. The structure of lessons is very similar to Pre-Piano Fun but will be slightly accelerated due to age differences.

Once the students reach Methods Book 2, whoever wishes to move to private lessons will be well prepared.

They can stay in group lessons, of course!

Class overview

What is different from the traditional early childhood music class?

Our programs follow the human brain's natural development. Even though we know that every child is different, there's a particular order of development stages that take place with their brains' growing processes. We need to take enough time and encourage all these processes thoroughly without missing anything or leaving anything behind before moving on to the next stage.

By doing so, all children can have enough time to mature each skill and can move forward without any confusion, which may cause complications later in the future.

We start working on a child's sensory development and eye coordination.

In this stage, all students will learn rhythm, pitch, and develop their gross motor skills, which will be the basis of good technique. Note reading will be introduced later, but students will learn the introductory concepts once they are ready. They will play the piano and do off-the-bench activities.

Once they are ready, we dive into note-reading and playing at the same time.

The most unique feature of these group piano lessons is that students are 100% granted the right to make their own choices and decisions.

That said, if your child chooses not to practice at home, that is totally fine, because they meet their teacher twice a week and their lessons are also their practice sessions. We support their growth without putting heavy pressure on them.

Another unique feature we require for all families is roll-playing at home.

Lessons are "inputs" for your child. To retain and settle what they learn, they need a process of output.

To create this loop, we ask mom or dad to become your own children's student.

Your children will teach you what they have learned in their lessons. Mom or Dad will be there, just listening to what your child teaches you. There is no need to correct or guide the practice. And please don't worry if they forget or misunderstand something and can't teach you properly. That is fine. We will revisit and repeat the same concept over and over again. They will learn and remember in the meantime.

When we can teach (output)  what we learn, the learning process is complete.

Please remember that the most challenging part of home practice for all children is "solitude."

Every child needs support from their parents. If you wish your child to practice happily at home, please be with them while they practice. This applies to any age, probably up to around 10 years old or even later. You don't need to sit aside to conduct the practice sessions. Just sitting nearby and reading books or doing your work will be sufficient.

Imagine that the loop your child is creating will keep expanding organically, and one day they will realize how far they have come.

We all learn the most when we enjoy what we are doing.

Do you see their bright future filled with smiles and music?

We hope these classes will be a joyful first step in your children's musical journey.

Please feel free to reach out for more details or to register your child. You will have our first briefing session before your child starts the classes.
